BELKIN, Alan (Québec)
Alan Belkin received his doctorate in composition in 1983 from the prestigious Juilliard School of Music in New York. He is a prolific composer and has written, among other works, seven symphonies, four string quartets, two concertos, and many chamber works, in addition to two pieces for guitar solo.
His music has been performed in numerous major capitals, including Boston, London, Mexico City, Montreal, Moscow, New York, Paris and Toronto. Since 1981, many of his works have been heard on Radio-Canada and the CBC. Alan Belkin is also a respected pedagogue and received a prize in 1994 for excellence in teaching at the University of Montreal. He is presently a full professor in the Faculty of Music at that university.
Apart from composition, Alan Belkin is also an expert in the following areas: the organ, computer simulation of the symphony orchestra, and music notation software.
