BEAUCHAMP, Michel (Québec)

Michel Beauchamp studied at the Conservatoire de Musique in Montréal in the class of Jean Vallières. In addition to a first prize in guitar, he won the competition in counterpoint, harmony and fugue under the direction of Jacques Faubert. M. Beauchamp perfected his skills here and in Spain with the great guitar masters Manuel Barrueco, Alvaro Pierri and David Russell.

At the start of his career, Mr Beauchamp explored chamber music, in particular with the violinist Johanne Morin, the harpsichordist Yves-G. Préfontaine and the soprano Adrienne Savoie. It was with the latter that Michel Beauchamp recorded his first disk under the ATMA label in 2001. He then took an interest in flamenco, which he added to his professional repertoire in 2003.

Michel Beauchamp has appeared in Canada, in the United States and in France. Some of these recitals were broadcast by Radio-Canada and by Vermont Public Radio.

In 2004, the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur asked Michel Beauchamp to present the complete works of Francisco Tárrega. Thus began a long period of research which led him to Spain so that he could carry out more intensive research there. Mr Beauchamp has recorded the complete works of Tárrega under the label XXI-21 Records.
