NARVAEZ, José-Luis (France)
José-Luis Narváez was born in Perpignan, in the south-west of France.
He began studying guitar with Antonio Membrado in Paris, then at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles with Nicolas Alfonso and Norbert Leclercq. Back in France, he pursued his studies in composition with Jean-Philippe Gruneissen and Jean-Baptiste Courtois, at the CNR de Lille. He obtained the diplôme d'État de professeur in 1985.
He has participated in many master-classes with distinguished professors such as Alvaro Pierri and Abel Carlevaro. He then made determining encounters with artists such as Roberto Aussel, the Assad brothers and recently Rafaël Andia, who asked him to compose for his collection «Guitarra Ibérica» at the Éditions Transatlantiques in Paris.
The city of Carpentras commissioned him a work for its Concours International de Guitare, in tribute to Léo Brouwer. His works have been imposed by the Ministère de la culture et de la communication in 1989 and in 1994. The Cahiers de la Guitare dedicated a «Profil» to him in 2001. The same year, he was named professor of music history at l'Université de Gap.
José-Luis Narváez is professor at l'École Nationale de Musique de Gap.
He created with Gilbert Clamens the group «Con Fuego», who presented a concert inspired by the works of Pablo Picasso and directed by playwright Yvan Morane.
His works are published in France, Belgium and Quebec.
